  • The University of Minnesota ranks 9th among public research universities overall (Newsweek's Top 100 Global Universities and Academic Ranking of World Universities) and 13th among public research institutions in research expenditures (National Science Foundation).
  • A testament to its growing prominence and appeal, the U’s enrollment has reached 64,964 but a 20-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio ensures plenty of attention.
  • 67.6 percent of U of M classes have less than 30 students.

University of Minnesota Student-Athletes

  • After the spring 2017 semester, 22 of 23 teams had a spring term GPA over a 3.00 and 22 out of 23 teams had a team cumulative GPA over a 3.00.Student-athletes' cumulative GPA is a 3.23.
  • 474 student-athletes (70% of student-athletes) finished the spring 2017 semester with a cumulative GPA over 3.00.
  • In 2015-16, 13 teams posted perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores and nine teams posted perfect multi-year scores. Twelve teams received the NCAA Public Recognition Award (Baseball, Men's Gymnastics, Men's Track, Wrestling, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming, and Volleyball).
  • Overall, the University of Minnesota ranked fourth among all Football Bowl Series (FBS) institutions with the highest percentage of teams earning APR awards. The University of Minnesota ranked behind only Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Duke and was the highest ranking public institution in the country.
  • Minnesota's overall athletic department 2015-16 Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 92 percent is an all-time high.Â
