Student-Athletes of the Month

Each month, the Lindahl Academic Center for Student-Athletes (MAC) will recognize one male and one female University of Minnesota student-athlete for their academic achievements. The winners are determined by a number of factors evaluated on a monthly basis. Including, but not limited to outstanding test/exam results, GPA improvements, superior modeling in study habits and skills, academic praise from instructors, and overall grade reports for a given semester.

Nanne Tyler

Jordan Murphy is a sophomore power forward on the Men's Basketball team from San Antonio, TX. He plans to major in communication studies. Jordan was nominated by his Academic Counselor Kyle Quagliana who said, "Jordan is a leader for our program on and off the court. He consistently brings a positive and hardworking attitude to the MAC, and truly leads by example."


Nicole Schammel is a Red Wing, MN native and a red shirt sophomore on the women's hockey team. Transferring from Minnesota State to the University of Minnesota after her freshman year in the Fall of 2015, Nicole has still set herself up to graduate in three years, majoring in Business, Marketing and Education. Academic Counselor, Laura Schnell, nominated Nicole for this award saying, "Nicole made the most of her high school career and was able to get ahead before beginning college. She will graduate after this Spring 2017 semester and is applying to the Sport Management, M.Ed program. I've been impressed by Nicole's ability to prioritize her academics and excel in athletics at the same time." Head Women's Hockey coach, Brad Frost, adds to this saying, "Nicole is an incredible student athlete. She is not only very dedicated on the ice, but also very disciplined in the the classroom and the community. Nicole is very deserving of this honor and I am very proud of her."
